505 String Machine is the definitive ultra-deep sampled (UDS™) string machine. The most detailed sampling of the legendary RS-505 Paraphonic ever done.

The secret weapon of Vangelis. While the CS-80 became the icon, the RS-505 was the warmth underneath, equally present across his most celebrated work. Essential on records by The Police, Depeche Mode, The Cure, New Order, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Herbie Hancock. The string machine that shaped the sound of an entire era.

505 String Machine includes expertly crafted programs built from extensively UDS™ sampled parts, capturing every nuance of the original hardware’s divide-down oscillators and analog ensemble chorus. That constantly shifting, organic phase movement that makes the RS-505 impossible to replicate with synthesis is preserved in full detail. Expanded with our custom 505 C.A.F™ modeled filter for deeper sound design while staying true to its analog soul. The result is instant tone and deep creative flexibility.

Ever so often in life. Something comes along that just ... puts our musical journey on a different trajectory.

An instrument that immediately inspires and broadens our palette of expression.

The RS 505 String Ensemble is one of these rare instruments. 

It is the secret sauce behind Vangelis. Police. Pink Floyd. Duran Duran together.
Pinky promise. You will know when you hear it. 



The sound is rich and mature. The oscillators have been marinading for 50 years. Amongst synth connoisseurs the sweet spot decade for when the natural degradation of analog synth chips peaks. Like fine wine.

So we Ultra-Deep Sampled (UDS™) it. In fact, we recorded every single sound on the 505 in ultra-deep fidelity. But that was only 1/3 of the library.

The other 2/3rds were patched on the unit using its unique modulation and especially ensemble effects, which is what makes this synth so extra, extra special.

The real RS-505 has four Reticon SAD512 BBD chips for its ensemble chorus circuit. Essentially four parallel analog choruses.
The library is over 7.000 UDS samples. So you can truly play it like the real deal - or twist into something entirely.
